500 workers in by 7:30: an estate’s gate with GuestPass
1:28
An estate still being built checks in more than 500 casual workers each morning with four digits at the gate, sees every site on the dashboard, and counts every worker out by evening.

Alpha manages an estate that is still being built around the families who live in it. More than five hundred casual workers arrive each morning, most of them between half past six and half past seven.
The guard at the gate holds a phone running GuestPass. A worker is recorded once, on their first day. After that, four digits of their ID bring up the rest. The guard picks the site, sends, and the next person steps up.
By nine, the gate is quiet and the estate is busy. On the dashboard, each site is a card: who arrived, who is still on it, and who has left. One tap lists everyone on Block C, with their ID number and the minute they came in.
In the evening, every worker who came in has to go out. The guard types an ID number and checks the worker out. The gate phone keeps the running count: thirty-four still inside, then twelve, then none.
When a question comes up, Alpha searches the worker’s ID and sees every visit: the days, the site, and the times in and out.
